Scenario 2

Sarah’s employer, the Hometown Community Bank, has a community service program that allows employees to use up to five hours a week or 20 hours a month to volunteer in a community-mentoring program. The Bank sponsored an initial orientation for the volunteers.

 

Susie Quinn, the Hometown Community Bank coordinator for the mentoring project, talked to ths students about the benefits to the students of this opportunity to get to know community members and the having a caring adult in their lives.

John MarshallJohn Marshall, the Site Supervisor from the Middle School, talked about the layout of the school, where the mentors would meet the students, and how to track their hours at the front desk.

As part of this program, Sarah has volunteered to work one-to-one Melissawith a middle school girl. She worked with Melissa for about a month.

The relationship was developing nicely and Sarah felt good about what she was doing, because she herself had struggled with school.
