Ethics

The Volunteer Management Competencies are a set of skills, knowledge, traits, and guidelines that provide a foundation for the practice of volunteer management.

Possessing, acquiring, or advancing through the skills, knowledge, attitudes, and characteristics that make up the volunteer management competencies are the basis for becoming a more skilled practioner.

Possessing, acquiring, or advancing through the values, ethical standards, and principles of volunteer management are the basis for becoming a more professional practioner.

Code of Ethics Book

This Ethics section is drawn largely from the work of the Certification in Volunteer Administration.

Part of being a professional practitioner is applying the ethical principles of volunteer management. Those who mobilize and direct volunteers must be committed to the following core ethical values.

  1. Philanthropy and Citizenship
  2. Respect
  3. Responsibility
  4. Compassion and Generosity
  5. Justice and Fairness
  6. Trustworthiness

Ethics is the foundation of professional behavior and practice.
