AmeriCorps Programs

AmeriCorps Members serve in local, community-based organizations, expanding their capacity to achieve their mission and building community involvement and support.americorps logo

Recruiting local volunteers is one of the most important things AmeriCorps can do for your organization. Each AmeriCorps member typically adds twelve community volunteers from the community.

AmeriCorps members receive a modest living allowance, student-loan forbearance, health coverage, and child care for those who qualify.

After successfully completing their term of service, they receive an AmeriCorps Education Award . This award can be used to pay off qualified student loans or to finance college, graduate school, or vocational training at eligible institutions.

Under the Serve America Act changes, AmeriCorps members who are 55 years of age or older, can assign their education award to a child, grandchild, or foster child.

Between 1994 and 20120, more than 4,900 Maine residents have served more than 6.7 million hours and qualified for Segal AmeriCorps Education Awards totaling more than $14,900,000.
