Citizens who serve in their communities as volunteers contribute to the strength and vitality of every Maine town and city. They keep our neighborhoods safe, mentor our children, provide essential services to the needy, and comfort the elderly.
For the past twenty-two years, the Governor’s Volunteer Service Awards have celebrated and recognized the exemplary work of Maine’s most dedicated citizens. This award program, administered jointly by the Maine Commission for Community Service and the Governor’s Office, recognizes and honors the valuable contributions of Maine’s extraordinary volunteers while inspiring others to follow their example.
To submit a nomination, review the award categories below and complete a nomination form. The award brochure also has the list of awards and the purpose statement for each type. It can be downloaded as a PDF from this page.
DEADLINE for receipt of nominations is 2pm, Monday, February 16, 2009. Instructions for sending nominations are in the brochure and nomination form. This year, the Roll of Honor nominations have a second document that is set up for listing all the nominees in one file.
The Maine Commission for Community Service gratefully acknowledges the financial support for these awards provided by:

For directions on how to nominate volunteers for the Roll of Honor, see the nomination form. A spreadsheet designed for submission of 10-300 names is posted at the right for your convenience.
