Roll of Honor

gsaWhat it is

Maine is fortunate to have hundreds of citizens who dedicate their time and energy to helping others on a regular basis. The Roll of Honor recognizes volunteers who donate 500 hours or more of documented service to the community during the past twelve months (Jan.-Dec. preceding nomination deadline).

Recognition

Individuals added to the Roll of Honor receive two types of recognition:

1. A Governor's Awards for Service and Volunteerism certificate signed by the Governor with the person's name and total hours of service during the prior year.

2. Listing by name, town, and hours of service in an advertisement published in newspapers across the state during National Volunteer Week. The publication is generously donated by the Bangor Daily News!  This form of recognition is intended to generate more local congratulations from neighbors and friends of the volunteer.

(NOTE: There no longer is a reception ceremony in Augusta. The change to local news recognition was made because travel limited the number of people who could attend.)

Nomination Deadline

All nominations must be submitted electronically. The deadline for Roll of Honor nominations is the same date as all other categories.

Nomination Process

A spreadsheet has been designed for the submission of 1-300 names. Nominators should email the completed spreadsheet to Service.Commission@maine.gov with a brief description of what the volunteers did.

You may write one description if multiple volunteers did the same activities. In an effort to be green. Please include the nominees email in the spread sheet if you would like to them to receive a personal congratulations for their service (in addition to the certificate).
