I think the point is that, as volunteer managers, we have to be aware of the needs of the volunteers - the mission and vision of the organization - and put it together to make a match.  

The past generation was very forgiving if they weren't in a position they wanted to be in - they seemed to accept it.  Today, that is not the case.  There are too many choices, too much going on so people are not willing to make a commitment - just to be committed to something.  There is a commercial out now about commitment - don't like the wife, find a new one - don't like your job - find a new one - don't like your nose - change it.  It's so true.

Sharing of ideas and experiences with various volunteers' ages really helps me a lot.
