Habitat/Americorps PreGroundbreaking Project Habitat for Humanity of Greater Bangor, ReStore
Where: 231 Main Rd. Holden, ME 04429
When: May 12, 2010, 11am-4pm
Come join Americorps members and alums help get House #13 ready for groundbreaking. Volunteers will assist with landscaping projects for the house so that it is ready for when the groundbreaking begins later in the summer. House #13 is the first Habitat house built in over 2 years in the Bangor area. Join us and become part of the build process. Food will provided for volunteeers. We will be travelling from the ReStore to the site at 11am.

Trail Clearing in Acadia on Isle au Haut
Project Location: Isle au Haut
Project date(s): May 13
Project summary- to include physical abilities needed: Volunteers will clear blowdowns or beach debris in Acadia National Park. Participants should be in good physical condition. 
Project Logistics: please list transportation options, ferry/flight schedules, costs, links to ferry/flight sites: Morning boat leaves Stonington at 7am and afternoon boat leaves Isle au Haut town landing at 4:30pm.  Tickets are $35 round trip. Trail Clearing at the Chebeague Rec Center and Kid's Place
Location: Chebeague Rec Center
Date: May 8th 5-7 PM
Summary: Help students and volunteers clear brush for a new nature trail behind the Kids Place and Rec Center. Volunteers should be capable of helping to prune and clear brush for 2 hours.
Logistics: Travel to and from the island through CTC (www.chebeaguetrans.com), picking up the bus at the Route 1, Cumberland parking lot. Relevant buses depart the lot at 3:30 and 4:30 towards Chebeague. Return trips will be on the boat departing from Chebeague at 8:45 PM. Ferry tickets are $13.00 round trip, and parking is $15 for the day at the route 1 lot.
What to bring/wear: Wear work clothes and boots, things that will be comfortable working in brush. Work gloves would be good to bring if you have them. Clearing equipment should be available on-site, but if you would like to bring something, that can't hurt. Work will be outside in the woods, so plan accordingly.

Matinicus Island Beach Cleanup & Trail Work
Project Location: Matinicus Island, ME
Project date(s): May 13th-14th
Project summary- to include physical abilities needed
For Americorps Week on Matinicus Island, we plan to clean up the three major beaches and recycle the waste we cleanup; and clear/maintain the already established Matinicus Trail. We need volunteers who are willing to handle and sort beach debris, transport the waste to the recycling center, and help store it there. We will also need people comfortable with handling a chainsaw (island volunteer), and clearing brush, clipping back vegetation, and re-designating the path. 
Project Logistics: Depending on the weather, planes can be scheduled for any time for $55 per person for a shared flight. With 4 people traveling on the private ferry, the cost would be $50 per person, and can be arranged based on the tide. State Ferry: http://www.state.me.us/mdot/opt/ferry/matinicus.php
What to bring/wear: lunch, work boots, work gloves, lunch, snacks, work boots, rain gear, work gloves, and clothing for variable weather.

Interpretive Trail Event
The PWA is hosting a celebration of AmeriCorps week and the opening of PWA's Bearce Allen Preserve's new interpretive trail on Saturday, May 15th. The trail is a culmination of service work done by the previous MCC/AmeriCorps members at the PWA Tenley Wilder and Luke Lunt. I will be leading a guided walk of the trail starting at 9am at the Bearce Allen kiosk. There will be refreshments and an information table about AmeriCorps and the MCC. I would like to invite you all to attend the event and join in on the hike! If you would like to assist me with the guided walk or help man the MCC/AmeriCorps information table, please let me know. MCC Environmental Educators Leo Maheu (serving with Merryspring Nature Center in Camden) & Frank Sokol (serving with the CDC’s Drinking Water program in Augusta) are doing a joint presentation on Water Conservation and AmeriCorps entitled " 100+ ways to conserve water at home" on Wednesday, May 12 at 7pm. Maine Conservation Corps Environmental Educator Emily Ellingson will have an AmeriCorps information table set up at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay on Sunday, May 9th and will have AmeriCorps and MCC information to hand out. We're putting together outreach materials for tables at the farmer's market, SeaDogs game, and local high schools during AmeriCorps Week. Join AmeriCorps Alums of Portland, Maine as we cheer on the Portland SeaDogs, Portland's local minor league baseball team! Help us demonstrate the strength of our national service network by wearing your ameri-gear. All AmeriCorps Alums, members, supporters, fans, groupies, etc are welcome to join us! Service Project with Portland Trails
Get your hands dirty with Portland Trails as we help kick off their volunteer trail work season! This project will be a great opportunity to speak with other volunteers about the value of national service. Specific project and location TBD; 3-6pm. Contact Caitlyn at caitlyn@americorpsalums.org .

Work Day at Rippling Waters Farm
Friday, May 14th - 12pm-4pm at Standish, Maine
Come join us at Rippling Waters Farm, an organic farm growing vegetables, herbs, and ornamentals, for an afternoon of field work. We will be assisting the farm workers with whatever seasonal tasks are needed, perhaps transplanting plants to the fields and mulching. All ability and knowledge levels are welcome, those with physical disabilities may be accommodated in the greenhouse. This is a great opportunity to meet fellow AmeriCorps Alums in the area, get your hands dirty, and to support sustainable agriculture. We will carpool from Portland, leaving at 12pm and work on the farm until 3:30pm. Contact Caitlyn at caitlyn@americorpsalums.org .

AmeriCorps Week-Camp Beech Cliff
The AmeriCorps Community Resource Corps is pleased to offer a fun service project for AmeriCorps Week.
What: Camp clean up/trail maintenance-projects to suit all interests, Challenge course-to suit all ability levels (one 2 hour session each day), camping, camaraderie, good times and good eats!
Where: Camp Beech Cliff in Mt. Desert, Maine
When:  May 14th (arrive 10AM) -15th (depart 4PM)
Why: Camp Beech Cliff has requested to work with AmeriCorps members!
Members will be staying in 5 rustic cabins with cots/bunks/mattresses provided. There is a bathhouse with shower facilities (2 male showers, 2 female showers). You will need to bring your own bedding, shower products/towels, and pack an overnight bag. Max number of participants for this event is 20, so RSVP early!
