AmeriCorps Outreach Day at the Capitol
AmeriCorps programs from across the state will showcase the impact of their programs at the Hall of Flags at the state capitol on May 18th from 9-2pm. Please join us and learn more about AmeriCorps and opportunities to serve in Maine and across the country.

AmeriCorps Information Table
Visit our information table at the University of Southern Maine on May 7th from 10 to 2. Several AmeriCorps VISTA members will staff the table and be available to answer questions about AmeriCorps.

AmeriCorps Talk on WERU:

Alewife 5K Race
Join in the fun at the Alewife 5K race on Saturday, May 16th at 9AM. The event is taking place during the annual spring migration of the alewives, which is an incredible natural phenomenon to witness. The race will go along local scenic roads, with views of the river for as much of it as possible. This event will raise awareness about the alewife restoration project and participants who sign up for a shift counting the fish will recieve a discounted race entry fee. This is a great way to get involved during AmeriCorps week!

Cow Island Event
Anna Cynar is hosting an AmeriCorps get together at Cow Island in Casco Bay. AmeriCorps members are invited to join her on Friday, May 15th. Members who go out to the Island will camp out, and have a skill share where they teach one another about skills they are learning at their individual sites. The following day, they will perform service on the Island with a larger group of volunteers that are visiting the island.

The Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge in Wells to host two events in honor of AmeriCorps Week:
Come join the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge on Saturday May 16th from 9 AM-2 PM in our efforts to restore shrubland habitat for the New England Cottontail. We will be planting native shrubs, removing invasive plants and building brush piles in Scarborough. Bottled water and snacks will be provided. It is recommended to wear long pants and long sleeved shirts.
Come join the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge on Sunday May 17th from 9 AM-2 PM in our efforts to restore native shrubland habitat for the New England Cottontail and over 200 other species. We will be planting native shrubs in Kittery. Bottled water and snacks will be provided. It is recommended to wear long pants and long sleeved shirts.

Maine Conservation Corps Skills Week
During AmeriCorps week, the Maine Conservation Corps Field Team will be conducting Skills Week from May 11th-15th. Skills week involves a variety of both in-house and recruited instructors, teaching valuable trail skills to Team Leaders, Assistant Team Leaders, and select Team Members.
The Maine Conservation Corps would like to invite the public to view Skills Week on Thursday, May 14th at Camp Mechuwana in Winthrop. Guests will have the opportunity to witness field team members learning stone work, rigging techniques and learning how to use a chainsaw. Interested persons should meet at Camp Mechuwana at 9am on the 14th. Please RSVP by May 12th.

4th Annual Regional Stream Cleanup
The Bangor Area Storm Water Group is seeking individuals and teams to
participate in our Annual Regional Stream Cleanup. This event is a coordinated
effort to involve area citizens and businesses in removing litter from our local
waterways. In the process we will help beautify our communities, improve the
water quality of our local water bodies, and increase awareness about the impacts
of litter and storm water pollution. Come out and show your community and neighborhood spirit! Click here to read the flyer. Volunteers will be meeting at the following places:
